Off to the Fiderescharte
After enjoying a comfortable overnight stay at the cabin and a great breakfast, we were all ready for the next day. After a short descent on the Fiderepass, which takes us away from the cabin, the rocky ascent leads over the scree below the Schafalpenköpfe towards the Fidereescharte. Despite the fact that it was June, we had to cross a large ice field covered in snow on the Krumbacher Alpine Mountain Trail. We were glad that we had brought crampons with us. It was a bit steep, but it was eased by the fact that we winded our way upwards.
When we reached the top of the saddle, a few exposed yards of the path were secured by steel cables. When we reached the top, we had a breathtaking view back towards the Fiderepass cabin and the surrounding Alpine panorama, looking towards the Rappenalp Valley and the surrounding Algäu. We were able to see the majestic Matterhorn in the distance.
Time to take it easy, the pleasant part of the cabin connection.
After crossing the Fiderescharte, the path was easy to follow. We had left the snow field behind us, the saddle of the Fiderescharte, and the strenuous part of the day on the mountain trail were over. After crossing the saddle, the path leads over rocky terrain reminiscent of a lunar landscape, and then downhill in the direction of Taufersbergalpe.
We are approaching our goal.
After reaching the rear of the Taufersbergalpe, the path was relatively level as we made our way towards the Mindelheimer Cabin. Again, we passed through fields of flowers and green vegetation. It was a beautiful panoramic trail, high above the Rappenalp valley, with views of the Allgäu main ridge and the imposing Biberkopf. It also included the peaks of the Mädelgabel and Trett. For the last couple of yards before reaching the cabin, the path climbs slightly steeper. First, we saw the supply cable car, and shortly after that, there was the Mindelheimer cabin.
